Stake Smart tools at a glance

All tools sit in the Responsible Gambling menu of the account. Lowering a limit works immediately; anything that loosens protection waits for a cooling-off period.

How the operator approaches responsible gambling

For most people gambling is a leisure activity, and for some it causes real harm. The operator's policy aims to keep that harm low: each player answers for their own play, and the operator supplies tools, information and referrals.

  • self-exclusion from betting, set by the player or applied by the operator;
  • responsible gambling information and messages to customers;
  • staff training on responsible gambling at least once a year;
  • referral of customers affected by problem gambling to support services.

The operator can close or suspend an account over concerns about compulsive gambling, even without a self-exclusion in place. Players confirm that they are not self-excluded at any other gambling site or venue and must report a new exclusion at once.

House edge, randomness and odds

Every game is built so that part of all money wagered returns to the house over time. Betting systems such as Martingale or Paroli change the pattern of bets, not the odds underneath.

Four facts sit behind every session, from Stake Originals to sports markets.

House edge

Each game keeps a share of the total wagered; Stake Originals Dice carries a 1% edge, for example.

Randomness

No one controls the outcome of a casino game or a sporting event.

Independent outcomes

Each round or spin is unrelated to the last, whatever the amount or the time already played.

Odds and probability

Odds describe the chance of a win, and no bet carries certainty.

Warning signs and staying in control

Problem gambling starts when a person loses control over play and it begins to harm daily life. The clearest signal is simple: gambling has stopped being fun or costs more than can be afforded.

  • keep other hobbies and activities in the week;
  • plan the budget and the length of a session before it starts;
  • spend only what can be lost;
  • learn the odds and the risks of each game;
  • never chase losses;
  • stop when gambling is no longer fun or feels like a problem;
  • set loss and wager limits early.

Stake Smart also hosts a Self-Assessment and a monthly Budget Calculator based on disposable income. A worrying result is a reason to set limits or contact a help service straight away.

Loss, wager and deposit limits

Three caps control money: a loss limit, a wager limit and a deposit limit. Lowering any of them takes effect immediately, while raising or removing one waits 24 hours.

Loss and wager limits

A loss limit caps net losses over one day, one week or one month; profits within the period do not count against it, and unsettled bets do. A wager limit caps total bets over the same periods and does not net off profits.

If bets are refused, open unsettled bets first, because they may have reached the limit.

Deposit limit

A deposit limit caps deposits per day, and the amount is set in USD; only a daily limit is available. It applies to deposits only, not to wagers or losses.

  1. Open the Responsible Gambling page and select Deposit Limits.
  2. Select Add Limit.
  3. Enter the daily amount in USD.
  4. Select Add Limit again to confirm.

Crypto sent above the limit goes to a withholding balance and is released as the daily limit resets. Deposit details sit under the deposit guide.

Break in Play and Product Exclusion

Break in Play suspends the whole account for a fixed period and reopens it automatically. Product Exclusion blocks only the casino or only the sportsbook and starts immediately.

Breaks and exclusions
ToolPeriodsEnding early
Break in Play1 day, 2 days, 1 week, 1 monthReopens automatically at the end
Product Exclusion24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or indefiniteA fixed period cannot be reversed; an indefinite one can be lifted through support
Poker ExclusionFrom 1 day to 1 year, or indefiniteCannot be reversed once in place

Product Exclusion is set under Responsible Gambling → Product Exclusion: pick Casino or Sports, choose the duration and complete the prompts. Poker Exclusion is requested through chat or e-mail, and full Self Exclusion stays a separate step.

Self Exclusion: rules, effects and return

Self Exclusion blocks all access to the account for an indefinite period, with a minimum of 6 months from the date of the request. It is meant for a player who feels at risk of a gambling problem or already has one.

  1. Open the Stake Smart Self Exclusion page.
  2. Select Request Self Exclusion.
  3. Pick the period from the drop-down list.
  4. Select Next, then Confirm.

If the request cannot be started from the account, chat or e-mail support applies it. The operator can also self-exclude an account when it decides gambling may no longer be safe for that player.

  • the player can still log in to contact support but gets no benefits, bonuses or reloads;
  • wagers, reward funds and promotion entries during the exclusion are forfeited, with no winnings paid;
  • losses from the exclusion period are not refunded;
  • new accounts opened during the exclusion are closed when detected;
  • wagers placed against the exclusion can be voided;
  • funds left in an excluded account are recovered through support@stake.com.

Nothing reopens automatically. After 6 months the account can be considered for reactivation through a formal return-to-play check, requested in writing to support@stake.com.

Account closure and how to delete a Stake account

Complete deletion of an account is not possible because legal and compliance obligations require certain data to be kept. Closure is the alternative: it works immediately and needs no gambling problem behind it, whether the reason is lost interest, changed finances or other pastimes.

  1. Log in and open the Responsible Gambling menu.
  2. Select Account Closure.
  3. Choose a reason and confirm.

A closed account stays shut for a mandatory 24-hour cooling-off period. After it, a request through accountclosure@stake.com or the support team can reopen it, though the operator may run checks first or keep the account closed.

Protecting minors and blocking software

Play is for people aged 18 and over, or the age of majority under their law if that is higher. Underage gambling is illegal, and no winnings are due to an underage account once it is identified.

  • never leave a device unattended while a casino session is open;
  • protect the account with a password and never save it on a shared device;
  • keep account details out of reach of minors;
  • limit children's time online and use filtering software.

Betblocker, Gamblock and Net Nanny block gambling sites on phones and computers, and Net Nanny adds parental controls. The operator accepts no liability for third-party software.

Help in India and online

Tele-MANAS is India's free mental health helpline on 14416. It works 24/7 in 20 Indian languages.

  • Gambling Therapy offers free online support and can be reached at support@gamblingtherapy.org;
  • Gamblers Anonymous runs peer support meetings;
  • Gamtalk collects helplines, treatment and online resources from organisations worldwide;
  • family and friends of a player can turn to the same services.

Support can apply limits or exclusions on request, see customer support. Online money games fall under the PROG Act, 2025.

Frequently asked questions
