The idea: a commitment scheme plus hashing
Provable fairness lets players prove and verify that results are fair and unmanipulated. Two tools make it work.
- the commitment scheme gives the player an input into every result;
- cryptographic hashing holds the casino to its commitment.
Put simply: fair result = operator's input (hashed) + player's input. Neither side can steer the outcome alone.
Server seed, client seed and the hash
Each result is generated by combining a server seed, a client seed and a cryptographic hash. The server seed is the operator's input, and the client seed is the player's.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Server seed | Operator's input, kept secret until it has been used |
| Server seed hash | Published before the round as the commitment |
| Client seed | Player's input, combined with the server seed |
| Result | Produced from both seeds and fixed once the round begins |
After the round the server seed is revealed. Hashing it again must give the same hash that was shown in advance.

How to check a bet
The check runs from the game window itself. Each Original has a Fairness button under the game area.
- Open the Original that was played.
- Press Fairness under the game window.
- View the seeds behind the bet: the server seed hash and the client seed.
- Once the server seed is revealed, hash it and compare the result with the published hash.
- Recalculate the outcome on the provably fair tool or a third-party verifier.
The Fairness view also shows a breakdown of the calculation. A matching hash and an identical result confirm the bet.
The provably fair tool
The operator's provably fair section has six tabs: Overview, Implementation, Conversions, Game Events, Unhash Server Seed and Calculation. The Fairness button in each game links a bet to these tools.
The Overview tab sets out the commitment scheme, the fair-result formula and the options for third-party verification. The remaining tabs cover the technical side of turning seeds into game results.
Third-party verification
All Stake Originals can be verified on outside websites as well. Several of them have open-sourced the verification procedure, so anyone can run the same calculation.
Stake is a verified operator on the Crypto Gambling Foundation network. The foundation sets standards for provably fair gambling and publishes material on how the method works.
Which games are covered
Provably fair covers the Stake Originals, the 31 in-house games of the casino. That includes Dice, Mines, Crash, Limbo, Plinko and Blackjack.
- grid games such as Mines, Chicken and Dragon Tower;
- multiplier games such as Crash, Limbo and Slide;
- card and table games such as Blackjack, Baccarat and Roulette;
- Originals slots: Scarab Spin, Tome of Life and Blue Samurai.
The full list with RTP sits in the Originals hub.
What provably fair does not do
Provably fair proves a result was not altered. It does not change the RTP or the house edge, and it cannot tell the next result in advance.
- each round is generated on its own, separate from earlier rounds;
- a verified result still carries the published house edge;
- account security and licence details are covered in account safety.
